Outdoor Footwear/Boot Repairs
At Outdoor Approach, we have all of the machinery and expertise to resole or repair your rock shoes, mountaineering boots, hiking boots or sandals.
Further information: Hiking Boot soles
For your information:
In recent years, molded soles and light hikers have become quite popular. The industry has reacted by offering large and varied lines of these types of boots. Like heavy hikers and rock shoes, each manufacturers line of boots differs in fit. At Outdoor Approach we take special care to utilize lasts which cater to each manufacturers fit; this allows us to retain the original shape and contour of each boot throughout the entire resoling and repair process.
Our equipment is designed for repairing and manufacturing footwear. We use only premium adhesives, that ensure factory quality bonds. This is covered by our full one year warranty.
We are also able to do repairs on the uppers be it leather or nylon. This may involve stitching the patching of worn out areas, or the replacement of broken or missing hardware. Collars and heel linings can also be rebuilt with new foam and soft cow hide. We can also stretch boots, in length or width, which helps to solve any uncomfortable fit.

Further information: Rock Shoe soles
For your information:
Depending on variables such as the type of rock you climb, the tightness of your shoes, the quality of your footwork, you can burn through your sticky rubber two or three times a season. If the rubber is worn out, but the shoes are still in good condition Outdoor Approach can help you return your shoes to their former glory.
There are generally three kinds of resole or repair:
- Half-Sole Resole replaces the front sole of the shoe from the toe to the instep. This is the least expensive and the most common type of resole. This is where most shoes wear out.
- Full-Sole Resole replaces the entire sole of the shoe back to the heel. This is seldom called for.
- Rand Repair replaces or repairs the thin rubber band at the forefoot just above the sole of the shoe. Replacing the rand is expensive so it's best to replace the soles of your shoes regularly as a preventative measure. This is especially true for shoes that fit very tightly because the rand may bulge over the sole, making it particularly vulnerable.
You will need rand repair if the seam where the rand and sole meet is beginning to split, if there's a hole in the rand, or the midsole is exposed. When the rand needs repair, it's likely that your shoes will also have to be resoled.
All About Rubber
Different brands of rubber each offer a subtle compromise between stickiness and hardness. The stickier the rubber, the better the traction, but it may wear more quickly. Harder rubber tends to last longer but may not deliver maximum traction.
Consider too, the thickness of the rubber. A thinner sole is more sensitive and ideal for slippers or softer lace-ups. If you own a stiffer shoe, you might want a sole with a few more millimetres of thickness.
